afrol News partner media: The Chronicle
The Chronicle is Malawi's leading independent weekly newspaper, loved and feared for its outspoken profile. Based in the capital, Lilongwe, The Chronicle mostly covers Malawian news in English language. The weekly strongly values its independent profile, for which it has had to pay a heavy price as Malawian authorities not always play by press freedom rules.
The Chronicle is famous for its investigative quality journalism and has plaid an important role in uncovering political and economic affairs in Malawi since the weekly was founded by editor Robert Jamieson in 1993. It also plays a leading role in informing the Malawian public about the HIV/AIDS epidemic. The Chronicle is one of Malawi's most attractive newspapers for advertisers.
afrol News since 2000 has formally cooperated with The Chronicle through the MisaNet news exchange network of independent African media. Since July 2005, The Chronical and afrol News cooperate directly. Under current conditions, this enables The Chronicle to freely reproduce afrol News copy and it enables afrol News to reproduce The Chronicle news copy. There is an intention of deepening and commercialising this cooperation.
