afrol News partner media: El Muni
El Muni is the world's only independent media from Equatorial Guinea. Due to this fact, the irregular newspaper is banned in that country and is published in Spain. A part of the circulation is smuggled into the dictatorship. Editor Pedro Nolasco is the leader of the Association for Press and Expression Freedom of Equatorial Guinea, the national press association that was forbidden by the regime, forcing Mr Nolasco to flee to Spain.
The newspaper, which first appeared in 2004, is still an irregular publication, awaiting external funding. Occasional paper editions are circulated in Spain and digital updates are distributed through afrol News. El Muni is published in Spanish language. Writers include editor Nolasco and collaborators in Equatorial Guinea, who for obvious reasons cannot be named. Editorial content focuses on Equatorial Guinea and African affairs at large.
afrol News since 2004 has formally cooperated with El Muni through the expanding network of independent Portuguese and Spanish writing media in Africa. Under current conditions, this enables El Muni to freely reproduce afrol News copy and it enables afrol News to reproduce and translate El Muni copy. afrol News also plans to freely host El Muni's website as soon as the newspaper appears more regularly. Meanwhile [March 2005], afrol News' website acts as an outlet for occasional El Muni articles.
