afrol News, 3 July - The African Development Bank (ADB) has approved a loan of about US$ 20.4 million to finance a rural development project in eastern Côte d'Ivoire, the bank said in a news release issued yesterday. The Bank was to finance the so-called Middle Comoe Rural Development Support Project. ADB said the aims of the project included increasing on a sustainable basis the productivity of coffee and cocoa, the two main crops of Côte d'Ivoire. The project also was to diversify agricultural production in the Middle Comoe region. It further aimed to reduce poverty in rural areas and to improve the living conditions of about 237,000 rural inhabitants of the region. The project was expected to promote the recovery of the agricultural economy in Middle Comoe and help increase the incomes of about 12,400 farmers, the ADB said.
