- South Africa's utility company, Eskom has been granted only 24.8 percent tariff hike according to the decision made by the national regulator today.
Eskom had asked for a 35 percent tariff increase which was said to be earmarked largely for its multi-billion power expansion bill.
According to the national regulator, Eskom has further been granted increases of 25.8 percent and 25.9 percent for the next two financial years.
The utility company had applied for a tariff hike amidst pressure on its capacity following on last year and the previous year power shortages that saw a number of industries grumbling.
Eskom has blamed most of its capacity headaches to lack of investment and commitment on the part of government to renew and service its ageing infrastructure.
