According to a release by the African Development Bank (ADB), Mr. M.H. Leketa, Ambassador of Lesotho in Ethiopia, on Wednesday signed two agreements between the ADB and his country at the Bank's headquarters in Abidjan (Côte d'Ivoire). One agreement involves a loan of about US$ 9.22 million to finance Support to the Health Sector Reforms Programme (Health VI Project). The objective of this project is "to support the health sector reforms by strengthening social welfare and mental care delivery," the ADF informed today. The Bank states that the project is consistent with the Lesotho Health Sector Reforms Plan for 2000-2003 period and the Bank Group Country Strategy Paper (1999-2001) for Lesotho, "which focuses on health development within the framework of poverty reduction." The other agreement concerns a loan of approximately US$ 5.34 million to finance the Mpharane – Bela Bela road upgrading project in Lesotho. This project aims at "reducing vehicle operating and road maintenance costs by improving the quality and levels of transport services between Mpharane, Bela Bela, St. Theresa and Kolojane." The Bank says that this infrastructure project it expected to "promote economic development and reduce poverty by improving the efficiency of the national transport infrastructure particularly in the rural areas."
